Febisola Okonkwo
Founder & Executive Director, Tabitha Home — Ibadan, Nigeria
Some women don’t simply talk about changing lives.
They build a home where change can begin.
For today’s #WCW | The Women Who Serve, Amoize celebrates Febisola Okonkwo, founder and Executive Director of Tabitha Home in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Her journey into social work grew from a longstanding desire to help people, particularly vulnerable women and children. After working in journalism and banking, she pursued professional training in Social Work and turned her passion for service into a career.
In 2014, Tabitha Home opened its doors as a formal care and transitional home for orphaned and vulnerable children. The organization provides support that goes beyond shelter—including education, nutrition, healthcare, protection, psychosocial support and social integration.
But perhaps one of the most meaningful parts of Febisola’s work is her belief that children should not be defined by the circumstances that brought them into care.
She has spoken about the stigma attached to the word orphanage and the importance of creating an environment where children can experience love, dignity, belonging and opportunity.
Today, Tabitha Home describes itself as a safe haven for vulnerable children, women, youth and families, with programs that also include family strengthening, medical support and education.
Her story in one sentence:
She saw vulnerable children who needed more than survival—and chose to help build a place where they could belong, learn and thrive.
